WJCC 2009 Information

This summer the Windsor Junction Community Centre will be opened from June 30th to August 28th. We offer children/tot/adult swimming lesson, a child’s day camp, child sports camps, life guarding programs, and volunteer and leadership opportunities.

Swimming Lessons
There are four swimming lesson sessions scheduled this summer; these sessions will be two weeks long and run Monday to Friday mornings. For children ages 5+, we follow the Red Cross Swim Kids program, levels 1-10. We also have our own Swim Tots program for children under the age of 5. Adult and private lessons are also available.

Session 1: July 6th-17th, 2009
Session 2: July 20th-31st, 2009
Session 3: August 3rd-14th, 2009
Session 4: August 17th-28th, 2009

Cost: $10/2 week session

Swim Patrol: Rookie, Ranger, Star
Advanced swimming programs for children ages 8+ that are have completed Swim Kids level 7 or higher. Features endurance swimming, first-aid and rescue skills, develops swimming strength and efficiency.

Cost: $10/2 week session, Monday to Friday mornings.

WJCC Day Camp
This is a program for children ages 5-12 (at least one year of school is required). Campers participate in games and activities, make crafts, and sing and dance. In the afternoons campers have the opportunity to swim, build sand castles and play. This is an excellent opportunity for children to make new friends, learn about teamwork and have a super fun summer!

Day Camp is open from 7:30am-6:00pm; it is on a drop-in basis and campers are allowed to come for a maximum of 8 hours a day. Camper must be registered for Day Camp and signed in and out by a parent or guardian each day.

Day Camp opens June 30th and closes August 28th, 2009.

Cost: $10 day, $45/week.
* For families with more than two children, the third+ child’s cost is a maximum of $30 per week.



Sports Camps
Introducing our new sports “skills and drills” camps! There are three camps, each 2 weeks long, offered. Programs are intended to get children active and outside in the sunshine to improve upon or learn specific sports skills and build teamwork.

Camps include:
- Basketball
- Soccer
- Mixed sports (volley ball, baseball, kayaking, badminton, rugby, track and field, swimming, etc.)

Cost: $110/2 week session

Bronze Medallion & Bronze Cross
Pre-life guarding first-aid and rescue programs for persons ages 13+. Candidates must be accomplished swimmers (i.e. Swim Kids level 10). Completion of these courses includes a final practical exam.

Cost: $90/course

Junior Guards
Excellent program for children ages 8-15 that included fitness, rescue skills, first-aid, swimming and other water activities. Each summer Jr. Guards have the opportunity to participate in competitions across Nova Scotia against other Jr. Guards teams. This is a fun program to learn skills and make and build friendships!

Cost: $35

Junior. Leaders
Volunteer and leadership program for ages 13-15. Jr. Leaders have the opportunity to volunteer with our Day Camp or swimming lesson program and to learn standard first-aid and CPR. Field trips and a Jr. Leadership campout weekend are highlights of the program and participants learn responsibility, build team work and communication skills and make friends. This is a fun program for teens interested in getting involved in the community.

Cost: $35

Standard First-Aid course
Participants learn first-aid treatments for a variety of injuries and incidents.

Cost: To be announced

Assisted Water Safety Instructor (AWSI) & Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
A combined course for training to become a certified swimming lesson instructor.

Cost: $210 for both courses
